Plant A Row
Plant a Row for the Hungry with Growing Together Community Garden!
What is Plant a Row for the Hungry?

Plant a Row for the Hungry (PAR) is a national program that encourages garden communities and individuals to donate fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs to people in need. Growing Together Community Garden, located on the Crosspointe/Northwest Cary YMCA grounds, is launching our first Plant a Row program to support the needs of the White Oak Foundation Food Pantry, cultivate a community of both novice and experienced gardeners that can learn from one another, and have fun in the process!
Why Participate and Donate?
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 15% of Wake County residents were food insecure—without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food—including 1 in 5 Wake County children.
According to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, there has been a 38% increase in individuals facing hunger across the organization’s service area since the onset of the pandemic. Additionally, food-insecure communities experience higher rates of chronic disease and obesity due to limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
How Can I Get Involved?
Please sign up to participate. The Growing Together Community Garden team will offer ongoing guidance, support, and educational opportunities throughout the growing season.
Interested in free gardening supplies to get you started?
Logan’s Garden Shop, which has run its own Plant A Row program since 2008, has generously offered to provide free starter kits to our Plant A Row participants! If you would like to pick up a starter kit from Logan’s (707 Semart Drive in Raleigh), please sign up at PAR INDIVIDUAL/FAMILY SIGN UP — Logan's Garden Shop (logantrd.com). What Do I Do with My Produce?
We will have weekly produce donation drop-off hours Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings at Growing Together Community Garden in June through October and will deliver all collected produce to White Oak Foundation Food Pantry each Wednesday. There is no requirement that participants contribute a donation every week.
Please email us with any questions at communitygarden@crosspointe.org. We look forward to growing with you!
