Growing Together Community Garden
The Growing Together Community Garden is a partnership between the Northwest Cary YMCA and Crosspointe Church. Our mission is to educate, collaborate and build community through the practice of gardening.

Lead Gardeners: Jenny Cini and Christine Tudor Produce is donated each week to the White Oak Food Pantry The garden is almost completely volunteer-led and sustained. We rely on volunteers and community partners to help keep the garden running.

TIps for Volunteering
WHEN YOU COME PLEASE
- Bring a water bottle.
- Wear close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
- Wear sunblock.
- Plan on getting a bit dirty and dress accordingly.
- We will have extra garden gloves onsite, but please bring your own pair if you prefer.
- Bring and prepare to wear a mask. We are still socially distancing and wearing masks as we work on the garden.
- Be prepared for “garden critters.” There are many types of life that live in the garden. You might spot bugs, birds, and an occasional reptile or amphibian.
RESTROOMS are available on site.
PARKING The garden is located in the back of the campus, behind the YMCA pool and play field. Parking is available near the pool or anywhere on campus.
Garden History
Early 2019- First garden planning meetings held
April 2019- Garden design and planning began

May 2019- First garden workdays. With the help of community volunteers and partners, raised beads, arches, fences built. Warm-season crops were planted.

Summer 2019- First season. Volunteers, YMCA campers, and workday participants helped water, tend and harvest the garden. Harvest was dropped off each week at the White Oak Food Pantry.
July 2019 The Growing Together Community Garden was officially opened.
August-October 2019 Volunteers cleared the garden and planted cold-weather crops.
January 2020 Lead team met to discuss garden expansion
Despite the pandemic and in-person restrictions, the lead gardening team, their family and friends were able to successfully expand the garden with in-ground beds, automated irrigation, tomato trellis's, a center obelisk, a teepee, herb garden, and continued to plant, grow, harvest and deliver produce to the White Oak Food Pantry throughout 2020
